Creating your own website feels overwhelming to many – but in 2026, it's easier than ever. I have built several websites from scratch myself, and in this guide, I will tell you exactly how to create your own website, step-by-step, without any coding skills.
📌 I built my first website in 2024. I was afraid it would require a programmer or thousands of euros. It didn't. The site was ready in two days – self-made, looks professional.
What kind of website is right for you?
Before you start, think about what you want to do with your site:
- 📝 Blog – share information, experiences, or tips. A good way to build an audience and earn affiliate income.
- 🏢 Company presentation page – tell about your services, yourself, or your company.
- 🛒 Online store – sell products or services directly from the site.
- 🎨 Portfolio – showcase your work as a photographer, designer, or artist.
Your choice affects which platform suits you best.
🪜 Step 1: Choose a platform
This is the most important decision. I compared several options myself – here's an honest assessment:
🛒 Shopify – the best choice for an online store and blog
If you plan to sell products or services – or want a blog that can grow into an online store – Shopify is the superior choice. It includes a blog, pages, an online store, and AI features all under one roof.
- ✅ Built-in blog and pages
- ✅ Online store ready – you can start selling anytime
- ✅ AI writes texts and creates images for you
- ✅ Finnish payment methods (Klarna, Paytrail, online banks)
- ✅ Price: ~€29/month (annual billing)
📝 WordPress – the best blogging platform, requires more tweaking
WordPress is the world's most popular blogging platform. It's flexible, but requires more technical knowledge – hosting, updates, and security need to be managed by yourself.
🎮 Wix – easiest for beginners, limited scalability
Wix is a quick way to get a site up and running. It's well suited for a presentation page or portfolio, but doesn't scale well for a growing business. Read a more detailed comparison: Shopify vs. Wix – which online store platform should you choose?
💡 My recommendation: If you want a blog that can grow into an online store – choose Shopify. If you only need a company presentation page – Wix is sufficient. If you want full control – WordPress.
🌐 Step 2: Get a domain name
A domain is your website's address, such as yourname.fi. It usually costs €10–20/year.
- Choose a short, easy-to-remember name
- Prefer .fi (for Finns) or .com (for international audiences)
- Avoid numbers and hyphens – they confuse visitors
- On Shopify, you can buy a domain directly from the platform
📌 My tip: first check if the name is available on Instagram and other social media channels – a consistent brand across all channels is important.
🎨 Step 3: Choose a theme and build the design with AI
On Shopify, AI builds the design for you – just enter a description of your brand and it suggests a color scheme, fonts, and layout. No graphic designer or coder needed.
- 🎨 Color scheme and style – AI suggests a design suitable for your brand
- ✨ Visual effects – animations and transitions without coding
- 🖼️ Hero images and banners – AI generates professional images
- 📝 Homepage texts – headlines and CTA buttons with AI
💡 My experience: I used Shopify Magic to build the entire homepage. The result looked professional – I easily saved €500–1,000 in design costs.
📝 Step 4: Create content – AI helps
Content is the heart of a website. Shopify Magic writes texts for you:
- 📝 Homepage – gather who you are and what you offer
- 👤 About me / us – build trust
- 📞 Contact information – make it easy to get in touch
- 📝 Blog – bring organic traffic from Google

🔍 Step 5: Optimize for search engines (SEO)
Without SEO, your site won't show up on Google. Shopify Magic helps with this automatically:
- Use keywords in titles and texts
- Write meta descriptions for each page
- Add alt text to images
- Publish blog articles regularly

💰 Step 6: Think about how you will earn from your site
A website can also be a source of income. There are several options:
- 🛒 Online store – sell products or services directly from the site (Shopify makes this easy)
- 🔗 Affiliate marketing – recommend products and earn a commission (like this article!)
- 📊 Ads – Google AdSense or other ad networks
- 🎓 Digital products – e-books, courses, templates
- 💼 Services – consulting, photography, writing
💡 My experience: I started with a blog and affiliate links. When I saw what content worked, I added an online store with Shopify. Same site – two sources of income.
📣 Step 7: Market your site
A finished site doesn't automatically bring visitors – you need to market it. Start with these:
- 📸 Social media – share your content on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook
- 📧 Email list – collect subscribers right from the start. Shopify Email is free for small lists.
- 🔍 SEO – blog articles bring free traffic for years
- 🤝 Collaborations – guest articles on other sites bring visibility and links
🎯 Summary – creating a website is easier than you think
- ✅ Consider what kind of site suits you (blog, shop, portfolio)
- ✅ Choose a platform – Shopify is the best all-in-one solution
- ✅ Get a domain name
- ✅ Build the design with AI
- ✅ Create content – AI helps
- ✅ Optimize SEO
- ✅ Market and grow
